History

Hendryx Park was originally part of a wooded 360-acre parcel purchased in 1921 by James B. Hendryx. Hendryx was the great grandson William Henry Harrison, the ninth president of the United States William.  He lived on Lee Point with his wife, Hermione, and three children. The Hendryx family lived in a three story lodge which was built as the centrepiece of a planned lakeshore resort.  During time as his Lee Point home Hendryx wrote over 75 novels and hundreds of short stories.  He is best known for his stories of Connie Morgan, boy adventurer, which were serialized in the American Boy magazine. Initially donated to the county Road Commission circa 1970, Bingham Township negotiated a 99-year lease agreement with the Road Commission in 1992 after a rescinded transfer offer.
